Peter, I had the Razr 2 phones prior this this Nokia - and chose that for the exact same reasons you did.
Before the Motorola I had 2 Sony Ericssons - so I’ve never really been much of a Nokia fan before this one.
I recently replaced my ageing T-Mobile MDA Vario with the new Nokia N95 and can honestly say I’m glad I did. Sure, I could have gone for the upgraded Vario II but I really wasn’t using the whole PDA to it’s full extent and felt that it would be a waste. Besides, there’s not much that a PDA does that the N95 can’t!
My first reason for going for the N95 was the 5 megapixel camera - which is an absolute gem! I’m yet to try it out in a dark room, but outdoors it can’t be beaten! The colours are vibrant and the pictures pretty sharp.
Another reason was the GPS - not that I’ve used it much yet, but at least I’ve downloaded all the UK maps so I can hopefully use them to find out where I am if I happen to get lost.
One surprise was the Lifeblog feature. What this does is it logs the messages and photos you take on the phone and then once sync’d with a PC you can easy track what you’ve been up to. I love it!

One other great thing with the N95 is it supports WiFi - so I could sit at home (or anywhere else with wireless access) and surf the net without the hefty download costs.
So if you are due for a new phone - put the N95 on your consideration list!

Hey, man. I was thinking about getting one of these but was put off my the 2GB miniSD limit (I’ve had a Sony Ericsson for a while and had 4GB since I got it). Just saw that you can get the 2GB miniSD cards for just more than a tenner though! At that price you can probably take two or three with you. Do you know if you can hot swap them?
Drop me an email, btw - long time no hear…
Hi Barry!
Not sure about the hot-swapping of cards - only got one 1gb card at the moment, once I get another one I’ll be able to tell whether hot-swapping is possible.
Will drop you an email soon - promise!
Is the GPS any good? I have been putting off getting one
.
He finally managed to convert me to Sony Ericsson but now is again checking out Nokia!
I’ve not really tried out the GPS on the phone. When I do I’ll let you know what it’s like.
Thanks - will be greatly appreciated. I am keen to use fewer seperate devices where possible! :-D
I tested out the GPS at work the other day (took a walk around the grounds) and it seems to be ok - i.e. the position indicator moved around as I walked. Saying that when I tried to demonstrate it at my brother’s place last weekend it wouldn’t locate our position.
I will try do more tests as and when I get chance to.
Interesting - thanks for the update :)
Look forward to read about other results.

Looks good Neil. Trouble is, I’m stuck with the Motorola RAZR v3 for the time being, at least until my silly mobile phone contract is up. I should’ve went with Nokia in the first place, but was attracted to the ooh aah features of the RAZR.
